As the dark-haired beauty who catches Justin Bieber’s eye in his blockbuster “Baby” video, Jasmine Villegas is already familiar to pop music lovers around the world. Now this 17-year-old charmer (who goes by Jasmine V) is ready to step out as a multi-talented artist in her own right with her first single, the dancefloor clarion call “All Of These Boys,” followed by the edgy, urban-pop songs she’s cooking up in the studio for her debut album, which will be released by Epic Records early next year.

A singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and model, Jasmine has been performing since the age of four when she’d entertain at family gatherings. At age 7, the San Jose, Calif., native won a singing contest sponsored by Hawaiian Tropic, and by age 10 had booked her first acting job in a commercial for the 1988 animated feature film The Land Before Time, executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. She landed her first professional singing gig at age 11 performing the National Anthem for the Los Angeles Clippers, which led to her appearing at scores of top-tier professional sporting events.

“My grandmother always had music on when we were kids, and we’d always sing along,” says Jasmine, whose parents and siblings are all musical. “To this day, I can’t be in the car without having music playing.” When Jasmine was 11, she was walking down the street singing when a passerby overheard her. He happened to be a record company intern, and, knocked out by the power of her voice, asked Jasmine’s mother if he could make a videotape of her singing to send to a friend. The clip wound up in the hands of Jasmine’s current music manager, Gabriella Mosci, who was then working for music producer Damon Dash. They signed her to a development deal and Jasmine was on her way.

Home-schooled since the third grade, Jasmine began touring, and over the past four years, has performed more than 400 shows across the country and overseas. She has devoted much of her time to giving back to the community, performing for educational school assembly programs and working with the non-profit after-school program L.A’s Best. She also works closely with other children’s non‐profit organizations such as the Geffen Playhouse, Big Brother Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of America, and The Special Olympics.

“I want to be a positive role model to kids my age,” Jasmine says. “That’s basically what keeps me going, just making people happy. The kids I’ve met while touring often don’t know what they want to be when they grow up. They’re living in the moment, they want to have fun, and that’s what I’ve tried to capture in my music.”

That fun-loving spirit shines through on the songs Jasmine is recording: playful, highly rhythmic urban-pop tracks built for the dancefloor (“To The Yard” featuring Gucci Mane, “Work”), as well as epic power ballads (“Jealous,” “This Isn’t Love”). Each song showcases Jasmine’s positive attitude even when the lyrics tackle the ups and downs of love, relationships, family, and friends. “I write about things that have happened in my life and the lives of people around me,” Jasmine says. “Sometimes I just need to get something off my chest, but I never want to bash anyone. Most songs that empower girls also bash guys and I didn’t want to do that. These songs are girl anthems, but I try to give guys some guidance on how to treat girls. Hopefully, more people will relate to the songs that way. The music definitely reflects me as a person. I’m fun and outgoing and I like to have a good time, but it also shows my sensitive, thoughtful side.”

Jasmine’s ability to show different facets of her personality has also served her well in her other creative endeavors, such as acting and modeling. Over the past few years, she has guest-starred on That’s So Raven, My Wife and Kids, and The Nine, and was cast as a series regular on Disney’s pilot sitcom House Broken (a spin‐off of The Suite Life of Zach and Cody). In addition to being featured in Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video, she has also appeared in his video for “Eenie Meenie” with Sean Kingston, as well as music videos for Kanye West (“Jesus Walks”) and Frankie J (“How To Deal”). Thanks to her exotic looks (Jasmine is of Filipino and Mexican descent), Jasmine has been featured in print advertisements for Target, Mary Kate and Ashley, American Girl, Levi’s, Hilary Duff, and Macy’s, and has starred in commercials for such blue-chip brands as Chevrolet, Kellogg’s, Marshalls, and McDonald’s.

In 2008, Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao discovered Jasmine performing on YouTube and asked her to sing the National Anthem before his bout with Juan Manuel Marquez. Jasmine flew to the Philippines where she spent several months performing for one of their biggest television networks, GMA7. Managed by Pacquiao in the Philippines, Jasmine is a major star there after appearing as a regular on the country’s top-rated television show.

In 2009, Jasmine posted a self-produced video for “Serious,”on her YouTube Channel, which led to her signing with Epic Records at the end of the year. In 2010, she began working on her album, and hit the road with Justin Bieber to perform an opening set (choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance? vets Nappy Tabs) for Bieber’s “My World 2.0” North American Tour. Her visibility has led to millions of fans (who call themselves “The Jasminators”) visiting her social-networking sites on the Internet. Jasmine’s videos have racked up more than 53 million views on her YouTube Channel, and she has more than 765,000 followers on Twitter.

Now she’s just looking forward to delivering new music to the fans who have supported her. “They’ve been waiting patiently for so long,” Jasmine says. “I’m so excited that we’re finally going to have something great to give them!”
